INTRODUCTIE. CUBE architecten is in 2005 opgericht door Pieter van der Pot en Remco Wilcke. CUBE architecten is sinds 2009, samen met Wij zijn koel, De Groene Bocht, ZestIQ en andere iniatieven, onderdeel van COOL ENDEAVOUR, , een overkoepelende maatschappij met als doel de transitie naar een duurzame economie te versnellen. Cool Endeavour is in 2009 opgericht door Pieter van der Pot en Remco Wilcke (CUBE architecten), Aart van Veller (Wij zijn Koel) en Tim Manschot. We hebben met CUBE in de loop van de jaren een breed portfolio opgebouwd, van woningen, kantoren en horeca tot openbare ruimte en conceptontwikkelingen. In 2009 heeft één van onze projecten de Dutch Design Award gewonnen.

HOE WIJ WERKEN. CUBE staat voor een pragmatische en inhoudelijke aanpak waarbij architectuur als strategie wordt ingezet. Een succesvol project benut alle mogelijkheden die het in zich heeft; ruimtelijk, conceptueel en functioneel. Onze belangrijkste randvoorwaarden zijn de (on)mogelijkheden van de locatie, de intenties, eisen en wensen van onze klant, een effectieve omgang met energie en de inzet van duurzame materialen en grondstoffen. Het gezamenlijk vaststellen van eenduidige voorwaarden en prioriteiten met de klant vormt de belangrijkste basis van ieder project.

PROCES. We beginnen een project daarom meestal met intensieve gesprekken (of workshops) met alle stakeholders om zo alle randvoorwaarden helder op papier te krijgen. We ontwikkelen vervolgens een aantal concepten die we aan de klant voorleggen. Deze concrete vertalingen helpen bij het visualiseren en inzichtelijk maken van het wensen-pakket, en bij het maken van de juiste keuzes. Op basis van één van deze concepten, of een combinatie van meerdere, werken we het uiteindelijke plan verder uit in een aantal fasen. Uiteraard worden gegevens uit de begroting meegenomen in elke fase, zeker in het geval van duurzame investeringen die zo nodig kunnen worden gewogen tegenover bezuinigingen in het gebruik. Na de ontwerpfase volgen fasen voor de bouwvergunning, het maken van het bestek en bouwtekeningen en vervolgens de bouwfase. Al deze fasen worden vooraf duidelijk inzichtelijk gemaakt en inhoudelijk besproken.

SAMENWERKEN. CUBE is een zelfstandig architectenbureau, maar opereert binnen verschillende netwerken. We hebben niet alleen veel contact met de andere bedrijven van Cool Endeavour, maar vinden het ook leuk, en soms nodig, om samenwerkingen aan te gaan met andere bureaus en zelfs andere disciplines. Uiteraard werken we bij veel projecten nauw samen met andere bouw-adviseurs, bij voorkeur zo vroeg mogelijk in het proces om alle disciplines optimaal te kunnen integreren. Door de nauwe samenwerking met andere Cool Endeavour bedrijven als ZestIQ werken we met de modernste technologieën als LED, solar, warmte- en koude pompen en moderne brandstofcellen. Bovendien zijn we in veel gevallen in staat een financiering te verzorgen voor de toepassing van duurzame technologieën.

WAAR WIJ WERKEN. CUBE is gevestigd in De Groene Bocht 2, aan de Keizersgracht 452 in Amsterdam. De Groene Bocht, een initiatief onze Cool Endeavour groep, is een bedrijfsverzamelgebouw voor koplopers naar een duurzame wereld. CUBE heeft beide monumentale panden aan de Keizersgracht aangekleed. De panden worden in een aantal stappen tot een meer energie-efficiënt en duurzaam kantoorpand verbouwd. De eerste stap was onder andere het installeren van LED verlichting door het hele pand, de volgende voor De Groene Bocht 1 was het plaatsen van een van de eerste exemplaren van een nieuw soort brandstofcel. Het is inmiddels een bekend voorbeeld in Amsterdam, waar zelfs de gemeente een plek heeft.

Cool Endeavour was founded in 2009 by Pieter van der Pot and Remco Wilcke (CUBE architects), Aart van Veller (Wij zijn koel) and Tim Manschot. With CUBE we have built up a broad portfolio over the years from dwellings, offices and interiors to public space and concept development. In 2009, one of our projects won the Dutch Design Award.

THE WAY WE WORK. CUBE stands for a pragmatic approach where architecture is used as a strategy. A successful project uses all the possibilities it has; (within, both) spatial, conceptual and functional. Our main focus points are the (im) possibilities of the location, the intentions, requirements and wishes of our client, an effective way of dealing with energy and the use of sustainable materials and resources. A clear understanding of the clients wishes and priorities are the basis of each project.

PROCESS. We start a project usually with extensive conversations (or workshops) with all stakeholders to get all conditions clear. We will then develop a couple of concepts that we discuss with the customer. These translations give insight into the consequences of the wish lists, and help to make the right decisions. Based on these concepts, or a combination of several concepts, we will develop a final plan in different stages. Obviously, information from budget calculations will be included in different stages, especially in the case of investments in energy efficient technology where initial investments (short term) must be weighed against financial saving in use (long term). After the design phases different phases follow for  building permits, building specifications and drawings, and then the construction phase. All these stages are made clear in advance.

COOPERATION. CUBE is an independent architecture firm, but operates within different networks. We not only have a lot of contact with the other companies of Cool Endeavour, but also enjoy, and sometimes find it necessary, to collaborate with other agencies and even other disciplines. Of course we work closely together with other construction consultants , preferably as early in the process as possible to maximize integration of all disciplines. Through close cooperation with other Cool Endeavour companies like ZestIQ we work with the latest technology in LED, solar, heat pumps and modern fuel cells. Moreover, in many cases we are able to provide financing for the implementation of sustainable technologies.

WHERE WE WORK. CUBE is based in De Groene Bocht, on the Keizersgracht 253 in Amsterdam. ‘De Groene Bocht’, a Cool Endeavour initiative, is a business center for leading companies working on a sustainable economy. CUBE has converted the ground floor of the historic canal house to 'cafe' for visitors and reception, and the entire building will be converted into an energy efficient and sustainable office building in a number of steps. The first step was changing all lights to LED, interface floor carpet etc, the second step was installing on of the first examples of a new kind of fuel cell..
